Dan joined the Army in October, 1998 and trained to be a Combat Engineer
with the 82nd Airborne, Ft. Bragg, NC. He has completed tours of duty in
South Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and then he transferred to the 173rd
Airborne stationed in Bamberg, Germany. He is a certified Sapper (expert at
demolishing fortifications) and is currently serving his fourth tour in Afghanistan
in the Nangahar Province. As of August, 2007 he has served a total of 34
months in combat, and on July 4, 2007, under a hot Afghanistan sun,
he took an oath and reenlisted for six more years. On November 1st 2007
Dan received a promotion to Staff Sergeant.
Dan and his fellow soldiers continue to keep safe the roads and routes used
by everyday Afghan citizens, coalition forces and Afghan government agencies by
providing route clearance operations throughout the area. It is a vital mission
that supports and benefits everyone who relies of the roads of Afghanistan to travel,
but it’s also a mission that makes his contact with folks here at home sporadic due
to the odd and long hours of patrolling roads and the intermittent internet service.
Dan does truly appreciate all of the prayers from his church family and in
conversations with him, he has revealed that there have been instances throughout
his Army career that he knows, that if not for the hand of God and your prayers,
he would not be alive.
